Multiple alarms

I don’t understand people who set multiple alarms in the morning, or hit the snooze button. They lose sleep for a moment to turn off the first alarm, then waste all their progress toward consciousness the moment after. And certainly they cannot immediately return to the same depth of rest that their brains were in before. So why do people set two or three alarms in the morning, with the full intention of ignoring the first and going back to sleep? Certainly they do not really doubt what their part-conscious groggy selves will choose the next morning if they leave the choice of whether to get up a bit earlier or sleep “just a few minutes extra” to the morrow. But as for me and my house, set one alarm and get up.
